While the concept of the foldable phone has been around for more than a decade, arguably, Samsung is the most favored brand when it comes to this technology. This brand released the Galaxy Fold in 2019 and has continued to innovate in the foldable phone market. The latest offering is Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Compared to the advancement in normal mobile phones, the folding technology can be said to be in a near nascent stage. However, with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Samsung has taken big strides in the camera, hinge, and processor technologies. In this article, you’ll find everything you need to know about this exciting device.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Release Date

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 was released in July 2024. In the US and UK, it went on sale on July 24, and in Australia, went live on July 31.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 was announced in July, breaking from the usual August launch. Tipster Ice Universe suggests Samsung will also release a “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim” in October. This version will have a larger display but no S Pen support. It will be thinner and lighter than the standard model.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Price

Galaxy Z Fold 6 starts at $1,899.99 for the base model with 256GB storage. This represents a $100 increase from the previous model. Other storage variants are also available: 512GB for $2,019.99 and 1TB for $2,259.99. In the UK, it is priced at £1,799.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Design and Display

With Samsung Z Fold 6, you will see Matte Black and Silver color variants with a boxy look.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will come in five colors: navy, pink, silver shadow, white, and crafted black. White and crafted black will be exclusive to Samsung’s website. Notably, there is a prominent screen crease on the foldable display. All these suggest a significant design change.

The foldable phone might have a flat screen and back, similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The Z Fold 6 might return to a vertical camera layout. Unlike the S24 series, these cameras will be grouped in a small raised section. The camera bump appears less bulky, with a textured metal frame.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 will have a 7.6-inch foldable display with a 7:6 aspect ratio. The cover screen will be 6.3 inches with a 22:9 aspect ratio. Also, it will have a dynamic AMOLED 2X Display. This should make it easier to use. The Z Fold 5’s cover screen has a 23.1:9 aspect ratio, which can be difficult.

The Z Fold 6’s outer display will have a higher resolution of 968 x 2,376 pixels. The folding display will retain the same 7.6-inch size with a 2,160 x 1,856 resolution. The device will be 12.1mm thick when folded and 5.6mm when unfolded, weighing 239g. This makes it thinner and lighter than the Z Fold 5.

Samsung Z Fold 6 Cameras

The Z Fold 6 has kept the same camera setup as the Z Fold 5. We have a 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP telephoto shooter.

Earlier rumors suggested it might adopt the main camera from the Galaxy S24 Ultra. However, Galaxy Club debunked this, affirming the 50MP main camera. For selfies and video calls, the cover screen will have a 10MP shooter. Also, the folding screen will feature a 4MP under-display lens.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 Specifications

The Z Fold 6 will offer 12GB of RAM. Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. The battery will remain at 4400mAh with 25W charging.

Competitors like OnePlus offer larger batteries and faster charging. The OnePlus Open has a 4805mAh battery and supports 67W charging. Other specs include Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support, and eSIM capabilities. Samsung will likely focus on Galaxy AI features to entice users to upgrade.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 features a new processor. Each Fold model typically comes with a top-tier Qualcomm processor. The Z Fold 5 uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. And the Z Fold 6 features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This chipset matches the one in the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Samsung might use an optimized version with a higher clock speed of 3.4GHz.

That is all that we know currently about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6. After reading all the above specifications, this phone might be only a mild upgrade. Yet there are certain features that would have been heartily welcome, like a larger battery. A better camera system would not have been bad either.
