New Volkswagen California: The latest T7 Multivan California Camper Van Series Starts at $67,300
Volkswagen has announced the new California series, and now the latest T7 Multivan California camper van starts at $67,300.
Volkswagen has just launched its latest model in the California camper van series, the T7 Multivan California. The automaker introduced the new camper back in May and has now opened up preorders. The prices for all five variants are out, and this new launch is jam-packed with first-time features and upgraded equipment. It is the golden pony of the lineup.
New Volkswagen California Camper Van: T7 Multivan California
The new T7 Multivan California departs from its predecessors by using the versatile Multivan passenger van as its base, instead of the Transporter commercial cargo van. Thanks to that, the design has become more adaptable and comfortable.
Not only that, the new model also boasts two sliding rear doors, an indoor/outdoor kitchen, a 5-inch touchscreen control panel, and an enhanced “Beach” lineup, the last of which includes an optional rear slide-out mini-kitchen.
Preordering for the new Volkswagen California, the T7 Multivan California is now open at Volkswagen dealerships across Germany and the first deliveries ought to begin in the latter half of 2024.
T7 Multivan California Variants and Prices
Basic California Beach model
The entry-level California Beach model starts at roughly $67,300 (€62,689 for people over the pond). But don’t be misguided by the low price point. This model, designed primarily as an overnight sleeper van and not a full camper, has six seats and a manual pop-up sleeper roof. The roof includes a double bed measuring 81 by 45 inches. However, there is no lower bed, which leaves room for two rows of individual seats.
California Beach Tour model and Beach Camper model
For those needing a four-sleeper configuration, the Beach Tour model is the next step up. It is priced at €67,824, approximately $72,800. Along with the pop-top double bed, this variant includes a fold-down second bed, swivel cab seats, a leisure battery box, and an outdoor dining set with a folding table and two chairs. Buyers also have the option of the slide-out mini-kitchen and a 230-volt shore power hookup as additional features. Alternatively, the Beach Camper model, which includes these options as standard, starts at €69,472, or about $74,575.
Luxurious Volkswagen California Coast and Ocean models
The more luxurious Volkswagen California models, known as the Coast and Ocean, come equipped with a driver-side kitchen block and an in-van dining table. The Coast variant starts at €77,832, or around $83,550, and the premium Ocean model is priced at €84,359, roughly $89,600.
These models sport a plethora of amenities like a single-burner gas stove, a drawer-style slide-out refrigerator with both indoor and outdoor access and storage cupboards. The kitchen block does narrow the bed width to 42 inches. Also, both the Coast and Ocean variants have a 29-liter freshwater tank and 230-volt hookup and outlets.
Moving along, the top-of-the-line Ocean model has several high-end features. Heated driver and passenger seats, a storage box above the trunk, auxiliary heat, Climatronic automatic climate control, and ambient kitchen lighting are some of them. These premium touches are only available in this model.
All base prices for the new Volkswagen California camper van series include Volkswagen’s standard 148-horsepower 2.0-liter TDI turbo-diesel engine paired with an automatic dual-clutch transmission. A 201-horsepower 2.0-liter gasoline engine is available as an upgrade if that’s your thing. Volkswagen has yet to release pricing details for the plug-in hybrid version with 4Motion all-wheel-drive. This model has a lot of hype and we will find out more about it soon.
Whether you’re a casual weekend camper or a seasoned traveler, there’s a T7 Multivan California that fits your lifestyle. Just because you are sleeping in a car, you don’t have to deny yourself the luxuries of civilization.
