Just yesterday Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 10 in the live Apple Glowtime event on September 9. This smartwatch packs a wallop in terms of new features and technologies. It has a bigger screen than even the Apple Watch Ultra 2. It also happens to be the lightest and thinnest watch produced by the company ever. Brand-new health monitoring tech, tools for watersport people, safety and sleep apnea detection features – you name it, the watch has it. Let’s take a deeper look.

Apple Watch 10

The good news is that the Apple Watch 10 hasn’t increased in price. Its price is still $399, and for LTE, it’s $499. The 49mm model starts at $429, and the cellular version goes at $529. All versions of the Apple Watch Series 10 are available for preorder now and will ship on September 20.

Design of Apple Watch Series 10

Every three years, Apple tweaks the design of the Apple Watch. Well, it has been three years since the release of the Apple Watch 7 and the screen size has increased by 9%. If you compare it to the earlier models, like Apple Watch 4, 5, and 6, the percentage increases to 30%.

The bezel surrounding the display has become smaller so that viewing it from an angle is easier. Also, the refresh rate is now once per second, allowing the clock to display the second hand when in always-on mode. The Apple Watch Series 10 is 10% thinner and lighter than the previous versions. The rear now has an antenna and the speaker and digital crown have been shrunk down.

The standard aluminum Apple Watch 10 version has classic Silver, Jet Black, and Rose Gold as its finishes. The stainless steel option has been replaced by a titanium version that uses Grade 5 titanium with Natural, Gold, and Slate Grey as its finishes. The cost of this latter model starts at $699.

By the way, Apple uses recycled products to manufacture its smartwatches. The standard version uses 100% recycled aluminum and the titanium model uses 95% recycled titanium.

Features of Apple Watch Series 10

As we said, there are a ton of new features fitted into the tiny Apple Watch 10. Let’s start with the latest sleep apnea detection feature.

The watch’s accelerometer monitors the body movements that could indicate this type of problem while you sleep. Then, in the morning, if it detects something, it sends an alert advising you to seek medical assistance.

Of course, this watch does not provide any kind of diagnosis. One thing to note is that this feature is still pending approval from FDA. The Samsung Galaxy Watch 7 and Ultra have a similar feature in place already.

The charging of this watch is 20% faster due to a new and larger charging coil tucked into the rear. Apple says the watch reached up to 80% in just 30 minutes. The processor has been updated to the S10 chipset which has a dedicated four-core neural engine. This engine is used specifically for machine-learning tasks, like using the new Translation app to translate in real time.

The machine learning capabilities of the watch have also given birth to a new photo watch face curation feature that will automatically add frequently-used widgets to the Smart Stack. There is also a noise suppression feature for when you make calls using the watch and the speakers not only work for calls but also for any audio, like music or podcasts.

Apple touts the Apple Watch 10 as designed especially for watersports. Well, in this regard, it has a water depth gauge and temperature detection feature. The water resistance has been rated for 50 meters.

Then we come to the operating system. The watch sports the latest wearOS 11 which comes with lots of inherent functionality. For example, you can pause Activity Rings or Check-In from your wrist while also organizing the Smart Stack.

Additionally, there is a Training Load metric that keeps people from working out too hard. Moreover, there is part of this feature that is meant to improve ovulation and track pregnancy. A new Vitals app has also been included in the watch. This app is like a compendium of all your health stats.

Battery of Apple Watch Series 10

As for the battery life, a most critical concern for a smartwatch user, the Apple Watch 10 does not feature any improvement over its predecessors. The Apple Watch 9 can go on for 18 hours and the Ultra 2 can go on for double that, that is, 36 hours.

The Apple Watch Series 10 also has a battery life of around 18 hours. You can stretch this somewhat by activating the low power mode and using some common tips and tricks like reducing the notifications and silencing Siri. But more or less, the number will remain the same.

All in all, the Apple Watch 10 will be one of the best smartwatches in the market. But Apple has to be careful because the competition is not far behind, and there is also the issue of the ongoing lawsuit with the healthcare company Masimo. We’ll see how Apple responds soon.
