The US auto industry has witnessed a remarkable resurgence through the year’s first half where familiar giants like Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota continue to dominate. A few unexpected contenders have also made their presence felt.
Here, we will take a look at the 20 best-selling cars of 2024.
20. Subaru Outback
Number of units sold: 81,703
The Subaru Outback car is a combination of rugged charm and reliable performance. Add to that its versatility and you will understand why it has made it on this list. Sneaking into the top 20, the Outback sold 81,703 units. This marks a 0.4% increase year-over-year and a healthier 3.9% rise from last month. The 2023 refresh has added more standard safety features.
19. Ford Transit
Number of units sold: 82,164
Ford Transit is the company’s utilitarian van. Truth be told, no one would have expected this car to make it to this list. It outsold the Escape, Bronco, and Maverick, models extremely popular in the US. More surprisingly, it beat Subaru Outback and Toyota Highlander. If you don’t believe us, the latest statistics show that the Transit sold 82,164 units, overtaking the Outback with a small number.
18. Nissan Sentra
Number of units sold: 89,028
The Nissan Sentra is having a stellar year. Their sales are up by an impressive 55%. As Nissan’s second-best seller behind the Rogue, the Sentra’s resurgence is noteworthy, especially with the impending end of the Maxima and Versa/Altima. The current generation is the one launched in the 2020 model year with minor upgrades. But even with no drastic overhauls, Sentra remains among Nissan’s bestsellers.
17. Chevrolet Trax
Number of units sold: 90,463
The Chevrolet Trax car is a subcompact crossover SUV that started the year slow but has picked up the pace since. Selling over 90,000 units, the Trax’s 2022 makeover, and competitive pricing have played pivotal roles in its rising popularity. The new price of this vehicle starts at $21,495.
16. Hyundai Tucson
Number of units sold: 92,146
The Hyundai Tucson happens to be the sole South Korean entrant in this list. Despite a slight 8% dip in sales, Tucson’s recent update, featuring dual 12.3-inch screens and more power, keeps it relevant and appealing.
15. Subaru Forester
Number of units sold: 92,849
Subaru’s best-selling model, the Forester, sold 92,849 units, thanks to its robust performance and practical design. It is up by 59.7% in the first quarter of 2024. The new Forester’s arrival in dealerships is coupled with its proven 2.5-liter flat-four engine. Given that this car is Subaru’s bestseller, the company has been upgrading it from time to time. Of course, the reception hasn’t been all positive. For instance, some criticisms have gathered around the proportions and the wheel trim.
14. Ford Explorer
Number of units sold: 104,803
Ford’s F-series has been in the limelight for a long time as the bestseller of the company. So it is reasonable that the vehicle coming in at number two remains somewhat in the shadows: Ford Explorer. This vehicle is up for an upgrade soon which could shoot up the sales numbers. However, Ford has long since decided to limit the Hybrid model to law enforcement agencies. However, this decision could affect this car’s sales. Currently, sales for the outgoing version of this vehicle have been flat so it will have to make up for it through the rest of the year.
13. Chevrolet Equinox
Number of units sold: 106,455
The Chevrolet Equinox has been a staple of the company for a long time. It had a slight year-over-year sales increase. The impending arrival of the new generation model has a significant redesign and digital interior. This new model sports a 175-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that is available for all trim levels. This can drive either the front wheels or all four of them.
12. Jeep Grand Cherokee
Number of units sold: 106,751
Despite a 15% drop in sales, the Jeep Grand Cherokee remains a formidable contender. The price reduction of $4,595 for the 2024 model hasn’t spurred sales as expected. The current model features the usual stuff: two-row and three-row models. The former model hosts a 3.6-liter V-6 engine and the latter hosts the 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 engine.
11. Toyota Corolla
Number of units sold: 121,991

10. Honda Civic
Number of units sold: 129,788
The Honda Civic’s 35.7% increase in sales is a sign of its enduring, or even increasing, appeal. The current generation’s refined design which has a toned-down exterior was a good choice by the company. Honda has designed many Civc models. A $24,000 sedan, a $25,000 hatchback, and the turbocharged Civic Type R with a 315-horsepower engine are among the available models.
9. Nissan Rogue
Number of units sold: 141,160
The Nissan Rogue, a consistent best-seller, finds itself in ninth place. Some people have the opinion that the Rogue is an average SUV, with nothing exceptional going on. Despite dropping from sixth earlier in the year, the Rogue’s recent facelift and unassuming yet reliable nature keep it within the top 10.
8. GMC Sierra
Number of units sold: 148,785
GMC’s Sierra is having a slight sales uptick this year. Also, the Sierra EV becoming part of the lineup this summer in the Denali Edition 1 trim. 7. Toyota Camry
Number of units sold: 155,242

It boasts engines of either 225 or 232 horsepower along with lots of standard driver-assist systems. The sales are picking up slowly as the year progresses.
6. Ram Pickup
Number of units sold: 179,526
Despite a 20% decline in sales, the Ram Pickup car remains a key player in the market. The upcoming facelifted 2025 model, sans the V-8 engine, will be closely watched by both enthusiasts and critics. The new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six promises more power, but will it satisfy traditional V-8 fans
5. Honda CR-V
Number of units sold: 196,204
The Honda CR-V’s 28% sales increase highlights its continued popularity. The sixth-generation model’s mature design and a wide range of tech and powertrain options are challenging even Tesla. The new Honda CR-V is fitted with lots of standard-issue driver-assist technology.
4. Tesla Model Y
Number of units sold: 209,000 (est.)
The Tesla Model Y, last year’s global best-seller, holds fourth place in the US. However, slowing demand for EVs could see it drop further. With a base model priced at $44,990 and a high-performance variant at $53,490, the Model Y’s future will be interesting to watch.
3. Toyota RAV4
Number of units sold: 248,295
The Toyota RAV4, America’s top-selling SUV, shows no signs of slowing down. With sales up in the first half of the year, the RAV4 is close to overtaking the Silverado for the number two spot. Its current generation, launched in 2019, continues to resonate with buyers, leaving Toyota in no rush to update it.
2. Chevrolet Silverado
Number of units sold: 275,692
The Chevrolet Silverado car maintains its stronghold with 275,692 units sold. This vehicle is a versatile one in terms of terrain and that’s a major reason for its contemporaneity. The Silverado is available in many models. The rugged ZR2 Bison editions and the revamped interiors of the HD trucks are two examples of just that.
1. Ford F-Series
Number of units sold: 352,406
The undisputed king, the Ford F-Series, is on track to remain America’s best-selling pickup truck for the 48th consecutive year. With over 352,406 units sold in the first six months, the F-Series’ dominance is unchallenged. The mid-cycle refresh for the 2024 model year, including the potent 720-horsepower Raptor, ensures its continued reign.
That ends the list of the top 20 vehicles of the first half of 2024. A couple of surprises here and there, but more or less the standard vehicles have maintained their spots. However, within this list, there has been a lot of change. As the year progresses, we will see it happen even more in the car industry so stick around.
