iPhone 16 Pro To Feature Same Tetraprism Periscope Zoom Lens As iPhone 15 Pro Max
iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to feature the same tetraprism periscope zoom lens as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, however, we do not know anything about the Max variant.
Apple is busy working on the iPhone 16 and its Pro and Pro Max variants set to launch later this year. Meanwhile, a few reports and leaks here and there let the community know how Apple is getting on.
The latest report stated that another supply chain partner has been added to its list because the periscope zoom lens slated to feature in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could not be gathered by the current suppliers.
Currently, we do not know whether the upcoming devices will be fitted with a tetraprism lens with a higher zoom level. However, the latest update suggests that the smaller iPhone 16 Pro will sport a 5x lens. That means the hardware would remain the same as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Solely with regard to camera technology, that is.
For those needing a refresher, the iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts a 5x optical zoom and a 25x digital zoom. 9to5Mac was able to dig out some not-so-conspicuous information from DigiTimes’ report which told us these same specifications would also be hosted on the iPhone 16 Pro. If you peruse the report, you will notice that no mention is made of the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The silence is suggestive of a hardware upgrade in lens specifications.
We also received a rumor along these lines in the recent past. It stated that the Pro Max version of the device would come fitted with an exclusive “super telephoto” unit. This would be the selling point of this version as compared to the one below it.
However, let the above remarks not lead us to conclude that camera-wise, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro occupy the same platform, given that both the devices will feature a 5x camera. After all, that would not be like Apple at all.
It has been common news that both versions of the upcoming device would see their camera lenses tweaked up. True, Apple will incur higher costs because of this, but this will lead to a better image and video experience for the users. So don’t go thinking that we won’t see anything new in the iOS camera.
That is all for the specifications of the new iPhone. Let’s come to the cost. Well, there is not much news in this area. No clear report states whether or not the 5x camera upgrade on the iPhone 16 Pro comes at a premium paid to Apple. If the price tag is the same as that of the iPhone 15 Pro, which is $999, the upcoming flagships might just become the talk of the town.
